Jom is looking for a part-time head of product and revenue (5-7 hours/week).

Job description
The head of product and revenue is the primary driver of product, business and revenue growth for Jom, a weekly digital magazine. The position reports directly to our CEO.

You will be joining a media firm with a clearly defined brand and value proposition and, we believe, lots of room for growth. Though our primary revenue stream is subscriptions, we want to develop alternative revenue streams, including in Advertising, Education, and Events. We have recently signed ad and coaching contracts with major organisations in Singapore. Therefore, while your main responsibility will be growing our “top of the funnel” and converting readers to paid subscribers, your secondary responsibility will involve strategic marketing, including brand building and product development.

We are young, and eager to experiment: you will have opportunities to test out ideas and campaigns, analyse their performance, and then make recommendations to our team. (Here’s more about Jom, and our current product offering.) Experience in the industry is a bonus, but not required. We’re also looking for people with demonstrable knowledge and interest in media and digital subscriptions.

In terms of organisational dynamics, this position will have to advocate on behalf of the end user (the reader), to push back against the content and production people (us), helping us ensure that our offering is of value to our target segment (as opposed to lyricism that nobody wants). In that context, you will also have to be the liaison with our engineers for any website or product changes.

This is a part-time, remote position for somebody based in Singapore and with work authorisation here. We envision a 5-7 hour per week commitment with no fixed working hours. People with other professional, home, or volunteer commitments, but with enough flexibility to work on the side, are encouraged to apply.

Compensation will include cash, stock options, commissions, and performance-linked incentives.

Responsibilities

  • Define and deliver a strategy for growing our readership base and subscription revenue
  • Define and deliver a comprehensive product roadmap for our growth
  • Conduct rigorous consumer research, testing and prototyping to ensure seamless consumer experience across multiple formats and platforms
  • Work with our engineers, as the liaison between editorial and tech, to ensure tech delivery of desired products, including our website interface
  • Help identify and develop new revenue streams
  • Work closely with and at times oversee designers, programmers, and operations to deliver the best future-proofed UI/UX experience
  • Identify revenue targets and growth forecasts and be accountable for delivering them

Requirements

  • Demonstrable familiarity with the ever-evolving content and technology industry, including new formats such as video and podcasts
  • Understanding of, or ability to learn, the full suite of technological tools we use, including Amplitude, Google Analytics, Ghost, Stripe and Mailchimp
  • Strong initiative, results-driven, research-oriented, attention to detail, emotional intelligence
  • Self-starter who is willing to work across the organisation, and fill in the gaps between roles whenever necessary, in order to deliver a coherent product and revenue strategy
  • Based in Singapore and with work authorisation here

Time Commitment
Part-time, 5-7 hours per week, no fixed working hours, mostly remote work.

Compensation
Fixed cash component of S$400-600 per month (negotiable), generous stock options, commissions, and performance-linked incentives
